Pupil Premium

What is the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG)?

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is funding allocated to schools by the Department for Education to help improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and reduce the attainment gap between them and their peers. The funding is intended to raise attainment, accelerate progress and ensure all children can achieve their full potential, regardless of their background. Schools receive funding for eligible pupils and have the flexibility to use this funding in ways that best meet the needs of their pupils.

For the 2025–2026 academic year, schools receive the following funding:

  • Free School Meals (FSM Ever 6): £1,515 per eligible pupil
  • Service Children: £350 per eligible pupil
  • Looked After Children (LAC): £2,630 per eligible pupil
  • Previously Looked After Children (adopted from care or subject to a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangements Order): £2,630 per eligible pupil

It is up to schools to decide how to spend Pupil Premium funding because they are best placed to assess what additional educational provision should be put in place to ensure maximum progress for all children in their care. Schools are held accountable for how they use this funding and the impact it has on pupil outcomes.
